Routine Braces Adjustments Are Important for Realigning Your Child’s Teeth

By | Braces | No Comments

The braces installed in your child’s mouth have been designed to realign their teeth through the course of routine adjustment sessions. At each of these appointments, Dr. Muhammad Abey will apply a modest amount of tension to the orthodontic components. In the due course of time, this will progressively move their teeth into their ideal alignment.

Each adjustment is also an opportunity to replace or repair any braces hardware that has suffered excess wear and tear. If your son or daughter has noticed a problem with an element, be sure to let the orthodontist know. That way he can pay extra attention to the area or develop a plan to repair or replace it.

At the same time, it’s not unheard of for a spacer to feel loose or even fall out right before a scheduled adjustment session. Should this happen, you should call our clinic for advice. In most cases, we will simply recommend scheduling an earlier adjustment appointment.

Good oral hygiene habits are also important in the realignment process. Excessive wear and tear on braces hardware or tooth decay complications can increase the duration of the alignment process. If you are struggling to clean in and around any part of your braces, feel free to ask your orthodontist for advice.

If your son or daughter had braces installed in Wayne, New Jersey, and they have a scheduling conflict with an upcoming adjustment appointment you should call 973-341-3180 to reschedule. Our Wayne Family Orthodontics orthodontic team is happy to help you.

Invisalign® and Your Smile

If you want to align your bite but are unsure about the best way to do it, look no further. Invisalign® clear aligners have many amazing benefits that will make the alignment process easy and set your smile up for life.

Invisalign is a beautiful system designed to align your smile in a subtle and convenient way. These clear aligners are custom-made to fit over your existing teeth. Every six weeks, you’ll get a set of three aligners, each of which you will wear for a period of 2 weeks. Over time, these aligners will gently shift your teeth into the ideal alignment.

Invisalign aligners are clear and very thin, making them difficult for others to know when you have them on. Simply snap them on and off when you want to eat. That way you can eat your favorite foods without worrying about your orthodontic appliance. You can also clean your teeth thoroughly and easily before you put the aligners back in your mouth. Invisalign needs to be worn for at least 22 hours per day in order to stay on track for your treatment period.

If you are ready to have a smile you can be proud of, or have questions and would like to learn more, please call Dr. Muhammad Abey today to book an appointment at 973-341-3180. Our friendly staff is happy to help you achieve positive oral health.

The Purpose of Braces

By | Braces | No Comments

It’s not uncommon for someone in early to mid-adolescence to need braces. In fact, there are several different reasons why Dr. Muhammad Abey might recommend that your son or daughter be fitted for a set of braces.

As your child’s 20 primary teeth fall out to give way for their 32 permanent teeth, there can often be issues related to alignment or overcrowding. Sometimes this is more likely if when your son or daughter was young and a fractured or severely decayed primary tooth needed to be extracted. Sometimes alignment issues can be set in motion years earlier due to thumb sucking or overuse of a pacifier in early childhood.

However, it’s not uncommon for alignment and overcrowding issues to occur without any outside influence.

Malocclusion, is a situation where your child’s upper or lower jaw is larger or is positioned further out from the other. When the top teeth extend too far out it is called overbite. When the lower jaw extends too far out it is called under-bite.

If you have noticed alignment, crowding or malocclusion issues with your child’s teeth, please feel free to call Dr. Muhammad Abey at 973-341-3180 to schedule an appointment. We look forward to helping your child have a healthy mouth and an appealing smile.
