Your Smile And Mouth Guards

By | Mouth Guards | No Comments

If you’ve ever seen anyone who suffered an oral accident or injury, you may be aware that they can be devastating. Even a single blow to the face can knock out several teeth, or lacerate your gums. To prevent these problems from occurring, you may be able to limit the risk with the use of a mouth guard.

Because there are a variety of mouth guards, you should speak with your dentist to determine which one is best for your needs. If you are looking for the most protection and comfort a custom mouth guard is best. A custom mouth guard is made from an impression of your teeth and offer the best protection for your smile. For custom-made mouth guards, visit your dentist. Similarly, boil and bite mouth guards can be made to your dental impression by soaking them in hot water and then biting down into them when they have sufficiently cooled. A third option, stock mouth guards, are pre-formed and ready-to-wear but do not match your teeth and gums well.

To ensure that your mouth guard continues to function effectively, always make sure you store it in a ventilated container so the air can reach it. The risk of contamination is always present, so make sure they are clean. You should rinse it before and after each use. You can clean it with cool, soapy water. If it begins to warp or crack, it will need to be replaced.

If you are in need of a mouth guard, Dr. Muhammad Abey and our team at Wayne Family Orthodontics are here to help you in every way we can. If you want to align your bite but are unsure about the best way to do it, look no further. Invisalign® clear aligners have many amazing benefits that will make the alignment process easy and set your smile up for life.

Invisalign is a beautiful system designed to align your smile in a subtle and convenient way. These clear aligners are custom-made to fit over your existing teeth. Every six weeks, you’ll get a set of three aligners, each of which you will wear for a period of 2 weeks. Over time, these aligners will gently shift your teeth into the ideal alignment.

Invisalign aligners are clear and very thin, making them difficult for others to know when you have them on. Simply snap them on and off when you want to eat. That way you can eat your favorite foods without worrying about your orthodontic appliance. You can also clean your teeth thoroughly and easily before you put the aligners back in your mouth. Invisalign needs to be worn for at least 22 hours per day in order to stay on track for your treatment period.

If you are ready to have a smile you can be proud of, or have questions and would like to learn more, please call Dr. Muhammad Abey today to book an appointment at 973-341-3180. Our friendly staff is happy to help you achieve positive oral health.

How Can I Prevent Enamel Erosion and Cavities?

By | Enamel | No Comments

You deserve a top-notch smile and oral health. Unfortunately, if you’re not careful, dental issues can attack your teeth and gums and provide serious consequences. A couple of those issue include enamel erosion and cavities. As you may have already guessed, it’s best to avoid these issues as much as possible. To help you do just that, our orthodontist, Dr. Muhammad Abey, and our dental team have the right tips and information for you.

First, avoid tooth-harming foods and drinks. Those include acidic and sugary products. This is important because acidic products attack the tooth enamel and wear it down, making it weak. Sugary products feed the bacteria and promote tooth decay. So, do your best to avoid these things and stick to foods and drinks like water, milk, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. If you do eat or drink something acidic, please wait 30 minutes to brush your teeth.

Second, keep up on oral hygiene and take advantage of fluoride. You can do this by brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, rinsing daily, and visiting your dentist every six months. You can take advantage of fluoride by using fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash and drinking tap water. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can strengthen your teeth and save your smile.
